Last week, I had the pleasure of talking with John Locke and Jonathan Denwood on WP-Tonic to talk about a variety of things regarding the WordPress economy, self-employment, development strategies, observations around the software, along with a variety of other topics.

The WordPress Economy, Employment, Development, and More

Before covering what it is that we covered, I do recommend checking out their library of podcasts.

They’ve talked to people who I think are worth a follow and who are far smarter, accomplished, and have unique insight on a variety of topics in the WordPress space.

The WordPress Economy, Employment, and More

Over time, I’ve talked about this on my blog, but I enjoy talking with others in podcasts about it as well as how it intersects with their story.

And in this podcast, I talk about:

  • my first experience with WordPress (and why I started using it as a college student),
  • starting off in .NET for my career,
  • doing contract work at night,
  • working with Rails and WordPress,
  • shutting down my Rails work to ramp up WordPress work,
  • and more.

I also talk a bit about my perspective regarding the WordPress economy and some of the things that I’ve observed. Namely, we touch on the idea of why WordPress is one of the most dreaded technologies according to Stack Overflow and my perspective on that.

To that end, I talk about using WordPress as a foundation for WordPress applications as well as discussions that can happen on:

It comes down to the idea that there are people doing great work in the WordPress space but they are so busy, we do not hear much about it.

We talkĀ a lot more about a variety of the above, so I hope you enjoy it. You can add the podcast to your feed or even watch the video of the podcast on the WP-Tonic podcast page.

And note that if you enjoy the podcast, WP-Tonic does this every week:

Join us every Friday at 9am PST and be part of our live show. You can ask WordPress tech questions and also be part of the discussion.

With that said, I hope you enjoy the podcast!
