Professional WordPress Development

Professional WordPress Development is a topic that’s something I obviously discuss quite a bit here – I believe that WordPress has matured to a point where its potential for building not only blogs, websites, or content-managed sites has grown to where it’s a viable platform for building applications.

In order to share my thoughts on this with a wider audience, I’m currently running a series on Envato that’s all about professional WordPress Development.

Over the course of three posts, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on:

  1. Strategies for file organization, naming conventions, leveraging reference documents, and more.
  2. Environments covering development, staging, and production, and how version control plays into the whole development process.
  3. Tools and plugins that I recommend all developers should have installed in their local development environment.

Throughout the series, I’ll be sharing how I setup and configure my local environment, staging environment, and production environments as well as they relate to my version control systems.

Additionally, I’ll be talking about a number of the plugins and the software that I use in my WordPress-based projects.

As the series rolls out, I’ll be sure to update this post with more details. If you have any questions or comments (or pushback!) from the articles, feel free to share them in the comments.
