One of the things that I used to do on a previous blog (and on a fairly consistent basis) was read a number of books related to software engineering or related topics, and then discuss how I viewed them as being applicable to my current set of work.
In the past, I’ve read and discussed things such as:
- Code Complete
- The Design of Every Day Things
- Don’t Make Me Think
- Agile Principles, Patterns, and Practices
- …and more
Many of these books have drastically changed the way that I approach software development. Unfortunately, the blog on which these ideas have been captured is long gone.
Though I’m not big on resolutions, I figured that this would be a good time to try to restart this effort.
The Mythical Man Month

Of Man, Myth, Month, and WordPress
Over Christmas, I received a copy of The Mythical Man Month which is something that’s been on my reading list for sometime. Naturally, I’m looking forward to reading it, but thought that this would be a good opportunity to discuss the topic at hand within the context of WordPress development.
So as I complete certain essays, I’m aiming to share my thoughts and notes on what I’ve read and publish any key take aways for how I see this influencing my future work.
On top of that, since I’ve actually published this post, I’m forcing some level of accountability; otherwise, it will sit idly without any follow-ups and that’ll be embarrassing
.
In the meantime, if you’re reading anything related to development or design, feel free to link it up in the comments.

In between books for parenting, I’m going to try and finish Predictably Irrational. It’s a really interesting read on psychology and why people do things that don’t make a lot of logical sense if you break them down.
That sounds really awesome, actually.
