As we enter the final two months of the year, one of the things that I like to do is take time to look back at some of the things I set out to accomplish in January, evaluate what I’ve done – for better or worse – and then begin making plans for the coming year.

One of the things that I did this year that I really enjoyed was host a course aimed at helping you to improve your WordPress development skills.

Overall, the course had a greater turn out than I was expecting, resulted in some good conversation in our back channel, and also seeded some great ideas for future courses.

So I was continue to ramp up Pressware, one of the things that I’m looking to do next year is to offer more online courses and material for those who want to improve their WordPress development chops in certain areas.

2014 WordPress Courses

The first course that I did online was targeted specifically at those who were programmers, who had some experience with WordPress, and/or who were looking for some focused ways on how to begin improving their development skills.

There was no programming involved, and the course required that you do nothing (other than take notes, if that’s your thing), but I’ve put together a list of courses that are a bit more practical and ones that I’m looking to begin offering starting in 2014.

Here are some of the lessons that I’m outlining now:

  • Learning to use the WordPress Plugin Boilerplate
  • The Absolute Beginner’s Guide To Developing a WordPress Plugin
  • How To Setup, Configure, and Use a Professional WordPress Development Environment
  • The Absolute Beginner’s Guide To Developing a WordPress Widget
  • CodeKit: What Is It, Why It Matters, and How To Use It
  • …and more?

Most of these courses would all be hosted online, would have the material available to watch after hours (in case you aren’t able to check it out during the time that it’s offered), will span multiple lessons, and will include code examples for how to do certain things.

This Is Where You Come In…

Sure, it’s one thing for me to offer courses, but if there are things that you guys are genuinely curious about, and are eager to learn more about, then I’m happy to take the feedback and see if I can’t put something together around that material.

Granted, I’m one of those who believes in going deep rather than wide so I’m not necessarily capable of covering all things WordPress, but if it’s something that’s in my wheelhouse, I’ll consider it.

This isn't my wheelhouse (maybe it's yours?).

This isn’t my wheelhouse (maybe it’s yours?).

With that said, I’d love any and all feedback you can provide based on the planned courses and anything you’d like to see moving forward.
